4 for friends

Blogging has not been on the radar the last few days.  Fall is shaping up to be a bit wild.  Well, that is an understatement.  Great things on the calendar in days ahead- a lot of them.  It’s a pet peave of mine when people tell me how busy they are:
One, we’re only as busy as we want to be.  Two, am I supposed to be saddened or impressed?
Thus, I will not subject you to the very thing I despise.

Here’s a list of the latest:

#1
I am headed to Ireland on Monday.  I will be in Dublin speaking on cultivating a culture of life through the story of Eliot and the work of 99 Balloons.

#2
One unforeseen thing has been laid on top of this season’s recipe for wild times- Ginny hurt her back a month ago.  It has not gotten better.  She has a disk out of place that is pinching a nerve.  And so the saying striking a nerve has taken on a whole new meaning.  We would really appreciate prayers.  It seems there is little to do, but wait and hope and pray louder.  If it continues for months then surgery is the answer.  So, the prayer for our family looks a lot like this:

Hey God.
You know we couldn’t do a back surgery right?
You see these rascals?  The ones you gave us.  You like them?
Do you really think Matt can handle this crew for 6 weeks after a surgery?
Okay, we all agree then.
Amen.

I have truly enjoyed the contributions to THE STORY FORK– a blog 99 Balloons started in order to facilitate a discussion on disability.  If you have not done so, check it out.

Last weekend Ginny went on a girls weekend to Kansas City.  This is walking-on-water type of stuff for our family currently.  As God does, He has rid me of the pride that I have always taken in being able to take care of my kids with help from no one. In fact, I have been known to have a theory that says if they’re yours & you can’t take care of them….then your pathetic.  So, I am pathetic.  Though I am striving to change this fact, I cannot currently keep the kids for 2 days alone.  Without Ginny and her gimp back, it takes a village.  I am humbled by pathetic-ness as well as the grace of those who helped me bless Ginny with a weekend getaway.

Well, on to what I think is my home country.  I will try to report an update from the mother land.  If not, just know that I am drinking  pints of something I am pretending to like  & searching for 4-leaf clovers.

#1 just warmed my heart! This morning I stumbled upon Eliot’s story on Oprah.com! Watching that video brought tears to my eyes, but it also reminded me how much God has a plan for our life. May He continue the great work that He has begun in you.
    XOXO

Oh Matt! I am so sorry to hear of Ginny’s back. I had more problems with mine when I was a floor nurse doing a lot of heavy lifting. My poor husband has chronic back problems with fused disks. But working and pushing through nonetheless. It’s so frustrating I am sure. Will definitely keep that in prayer for healing and strength daily. Love Phoebe
