a month of mr.

by Matt MooneyFebruary 24, 2010

In a lame attempt to revive an old pastime that I have let fall off the radar, I have a question.  This is where you leave an answer in the reply box.  It’s called feedback, and helps me pretend to curb the narcissism inherent in a blog.  With no further ado….What music are you currently enjoying? It could be new, old or just new to you.  As mentioned a few posts back, the Mooney home is currently shakin’ it to Ben Rector, as well as the new Corrine Bailey Rae cd.  I picked this cd up for Gin in an attempt to be the husband that I am not.  I had heard that the cd coincided with the loss of her husband, and was intrigued.

Anders is fast approaching 1 month.  We continue to wait on him to drop the sweet baby facade and let us have it.  His cheeks are filling out, and with every hold he seems to fit differently than the time before.  Whether sheer coincidence or a cleverly devised ploy to grab back some of the missing attention, Miss Hazel’s words have tripled in the last week.  She is quite the charmer and currently loves “andy”- this is a fairly funny development considering we’re the parents who insist on you calling him what we tell you.  Apparently Hazel did not get the memo; however, as soon as she develops the ability to say “er”, we will hold her accountable.

The opportunity I have to watch Ginny thrive through the chaos has been a treasure that I am not quite sure I can explain.  She is an amazing mother- able to love all the craziness of tantrums, diapers and feedings in a way that has only come at a high cost.  For what seemed like a long time, the daily complaints of many parents were the very things she dreamed of.  And we both are living a stage that we can only describe as, “a sweet time”.

I think we stare a little longer.  Hold a little tighter.  And smile more often.  May it be ever so.

Love this. Hazel’s name for Anders cracks me up…you don’t strike me as “Andy” people, which makes it pretty darn funny 🙂 Don’t worry, she’ll learn.

And as far as music goes, all Oliver ever wants to listen to is Mr. Neil, so I feel behind in listening to a variety of music. This week I’ve caught up on a few favorites, and while they’re not new nor new to me, I do love Shane & Shane. Harmonies are off the charts and speak to my soul 🙂

Currently rockin’ a little Black Betty by Ram Jam; Tom Sawyer by Rush… currently in a bit of a classic rock phase. Also rediscovered David Wilcox. If you aren’t familiar, please make yourself familiar. The man is a “Roaring Lamb.” http://davidwilcox.com/

Im a country girl, so most of my listening is country, and there is this one song, “In My Arms” by Mark Wills that just gives me chill bumps and so I listen to it on repeat just about all day. Its a song from a daddy to his 1 day old baby girl.

I’ve got Needtobreathe in the CD player right now. It’s been there since October, but I don’t listen to it every time I’m in the van. Sometimes I listen to my 6-year-old read – his current fave is the Magic Treehouse series – or my daughter tell me about her day at preschool. But, when it’s me time – it’s Needtobreathe.

Hazel makes me laugh. Andy Mooney makes me think of Andy Rooney, the old guy from 60 Minutes.

    Ingrid Michaelson
Her music is fun and at times quirky. It has that whole Indy feel to it.

I recently picked up Patty Griffin’s newest cd- diff than her normal style (all done in a downtown church) but I love it. Also listening to Train, Ingrid, and numerous others. I love music!

It’s been a LONG time since I bought a whole CD, I’m guilty of just picking my faves from iTunes. Accoring to my playlists, my favorite songs of the moment are, “Always” by Switchfoot, “Hosanna” by Hillsong United and “How He Loves” by The Glorious Unseen. LOVE the pics of Hazel and Anders, too cute. My kids are all about two years apart, when they were babies I always got my best “group shots” on the couch too.

Amos Lee is fantastic! His albums (self-titled, Last Days at the Lodge, and Supply and Demand) are all fantastic. Give him a try!
