Conferences, board meetings, opportunities to tell our story and more have made an evening in my own home quite evasive as of late. Ginny and I were recounting this week- what a wild season it has been, and we managed to tally two straight weeks where I (or both of us) had something at night that kept us from being at home. That’s 14 straight days for those of you using your fingers. I know, I know
…who cares. And “woo-hoo” Mr. Busybody, do you want a cookie?
It’s all good stuff and I could tell you some great things that have come from this activity. But I’m also reminded that I do not want the last few weeks to creep into anything but an anomaly. The world tells us that we are what we do, what we accomplish, who we know and we’re all prone to buy into it- never with our words but with our lives instead. And when it’s “good, world-changing stuff” that you think you’re doing, it is so easy to justify why it’s important and even a must; do I have enough faith to believe that the Lord is at work even when I am not? To play my part, be faithful and cast the rest to trust. I tend to think things ride on me, my doing, my activity. It’s easy to forget that I join Him in a work already in progress, and I get to be a part, not I have to be.
To Ginny, Hazel & Anders…let’s have many more nights with just us (and maybe a pizza). Everyone keeps telling me it goes so fast, but I already know.
Here’s a family update from Ginny. She did it better than I could.

Appreciate your perspective man. Great stuff.

Such a great post, and a much needed reminder! My husband and I were having this EXACT discussion tonight! Leave it to God to remind us of this very important lesson over and over again until we get it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! You have an amazing gift of putting into words what is not so easily expressible.

Amen! I’d type that in caps lock if it didn’t look too tacky. 😉
I love how you said this. Ugh, you are so talented! I am serious; I hope you know that. The wording of your thoughts is both familiar and fresh, and I love the smallest things about your phrases.
You’re so right: we are not defined by who we are or who we know. I forget that so easily, though, when I feel inadequate over my lack of formal accomplishments or high-profile connections.
The eternal perspective is what I needed: to remember that God doesn’t need me, but He chooses to use me anyway, and that is a privilege and His grace, more than anything else.
Thank you for your blog; I’ve received much encouragement today! 😀
