I have the honor of getting to be a part of the upcoming Idea Camp in Austin, and I can say I am truly looking forward to gathering together and listening to the folks that gather.
The blog post below was one of- if not the hardest- blog posts to ever hit the submit button on. Though I believe in the words that are written within it, I fear it can be or will be taken in a way I did not intend. I decided that these feelings could either lead me to remain silent or I could wade into the foreboding waters of trying to explain what I meant…..here we go a-wading.
In this post, I attempt to discuss the current adoption debate and the corruption surrounding many of the practices and countries therein. I am not always right and if my words offend you in any way, I would love for you to let me know in order for us to dialogue on what I meant or did not mean.
I am fine with disagreeing if we do, but do not want you to disagree with what I did not mean but was unable to communicate. Feel free to leave a comment at either location or email me: matthewlylemooney (at) gmail(dot)com.

I can’t help but feel conflicted when I get brought into the current adoption debate. You know the one that volleys to and fro:
from one point of view whereby corruption is such that all international adoptions should cease
and then snaps to the other side whereby we should turn a naïve eye to such “rare” realities and push forward with a mandate to place children in families.
In order for you to understand my inner strife with this discussion, you must spend a second getting to know me- and for that I most likely owe you an apology.
