some news from these parts…

by Matt MooneyMarch 18, 2013

Well, first of all. We (me, Anders & Lena) made it on the home-front with Ginny & Hazel in Florida for four days. That may seem minuscule to you, but if so- you are a moron. This is huge, folks! I had tons of help and those who helped are now inscribed in my will.

For context, Lena has been home for 16 months. This is the second time that Ginny has left for any amount of time. The first time, Lena went on a hunger & thirst strike, which I kept from her mom, and which subsided after 2 full days. I was beginning to google intravenous home kits. But, this time, we made it- both Anders and Lena were champs and set aside their mommy tunnel vision for just a few days.

Now, I have a bit of an announcement:
I have written a book that chronicles our lives from eliot to Lena; it attempts to delve into all the intertwined pain and redemption and goodness of a God that confounds me.

It is coming out around June 1st and I am hesitantly excited to share with folks a bit more of a story they may know in pieces.

I wanted to share this with you early on, and honestly some of my dear friends are going to kill me as they learn this tidbit of news from the blog. With that said, you who show up and read these ramblings have been part of the ragamuffin crew that led me to believe that a book should happen and that I could actually write it.

Thank you. Both of those conclusions were journeys for me.

The writing took the greater part of all spare moments comprising the last three years of my life. I’ve got the oft-told story of being turned down by every publisher known to man. And just when I had decided that all of this writing must have been for me (and that was enough- as the writing became such a means of catharsis for me), a publisher came sniffing around while we were in Ukraine preparing to bring our Lena home.

And the timing was perfect, as I had not known where a book would end until I was in Ukraine.

I’ll be blogging a bit more about the process and around some themes as the release nears. For now, if you’re so inclined would you say a prayer- feel free to cover one or all of the following in said prayer….the one that I am asking you for:

• that God would be glorified through our pain, redemption and retelling.
• that God would encourage one person who is lost in the throes of grief and hurt with the reality of the hope we have in Him.
• that I would not become what I too often see….confused and putting myself in the center of a story in which I am not the point but the pointer.

Here we go.

The book is newly available for pre-orders.
My friends at Givingtons are giving a portion of proceeds to 99 Balloons, so that is  awesome.  The book is also available for pre-order online at Amazon, etc.
