Delving into Disability

by Matt MooneyAugust 7, 2011

BLEMISH IS BEAUTY is a forthcoming initiative of 99 Balloons whereby I will be asking various individuals to write on the topic of special needs, disabilities and, in particular, the plight of special needs children internationally.  It is something I am really excited about and we have some great folks lined up to give us their insight as well as raise our awareness on this topic.  You’ll have to come back around to hear exactly why we chose the name, but I am sure you could guess quite accurately.

We are still in the works as to how and when we are going to roll it out, but it could look something like an 8-week blog series that includes ways to get involved with what you are reading about.  This entry serves as sort of a sneak peak to folks who are already coming around.  If you have any ideas, possible contributors or know of great works internationally with special needs individuals- please send them my way by leaving a comment or sending an email (matt@99balloons.org).  We would also love your help with spreading the word as we truly believe that the message that will be conveyed is one that can change individuals and entire cultures.

As a start for this “not yet” point, feel free to check out our new website at 99 Balloons.  We think it more accurately paints the picture of some of the amazing things that are going on.  In addition, when you have time, you can listen to a talk I recently gave on this topic.  This talk served as the culmination of much thought, prayer and life change I have undergone through Eliot and the work we get to be apart of.

So give us your feedback or come back and check in for where we land.

Matt – if you haven’t connected with Rebecca Christians from Autumns ReRide Youth Ranch in Bentonville – she would be a fantastic resource!

    Her email is arryr@ymail.com

Her ranch is free to families and she serves a lot of kiddos with special needs and it is a Christian ranch. Win win win – I have volunteered there several times
