a peek into my prayers

I would like share a prayer from some journaling I was able to do this morning.  Ginny & the rascals are on their way back from Louisiana, thus a quiet moment of reflection was possible- complete with coffee and a muffin.  I was reminded in my return to this process- one that used to be a habit but is now more of a phenomenon- that it is good to write down my heavenly petitions.  For me, doing so, seems to birth a finality of releasing a recurring concern over to the One who desires me to bring such fare to Him.

I write down the prayer.
I close my journal.
It is out of my hands.

Just as it always was- but now I more aware of this reality and more surrendered to the unfolding thereof.

I choose a topic at a time and go for it.  I encourage you to do the same this week at some point, and I would love it if you would be so bold as to leave it as a comment- for all of us to see and learn from and possibly join.  All are welcome to partake, I suppose few will.  This is not for believers only, prayer is an open invitation to all who will, and is forever and for all, an act of faith.

Family::
Lord, help us to focus on you….on the things of you.  On things not of this world.
Give Ginny & I unified hearts & wisdom in how to best love these gifts.
May they know you.
May you reside in our company.
May they see your love through ours.
Help Ginny & I to place proper energy towards our relationship with you & with each other.  Help us develop a path of love & correction for discipline.  Let our love be evident to all…even our children who see us most.

Father::
I have not wandered but have not pursued you.  I feel untethered & exposed in quiet moments- for I have nothing but you & in my lack of care to seek you, I can forget your grace and my need of it, until my own sin slaps a forgetful face.
May your word be my desire.
And your presence be my dwelling.

    Father: Thank you for forgiveness. Thank you for giving my wife the grace to forgive me. Help me to forgive myself–I just can’t without Your help. And help our son to forgive both of us; we love him dearly, even though he cannot see it right now.

    Great post and a great invitation for us as well. I am thankful that my relationship with my God is not open and shut. It’s not based on one action, one thought, one response. It has a history, a backstory. It’s one that isn’t finished, it’ll never be finished. Wether I am in His favor or not, He sees me as his child and he doesn’t write me out of His story.

    I saw your tweet where you quoted CH Spurgeon, I just came across a verse the other day that is somewhat an echo of his thoughts. “… I saw that all toil and all skill in work come from a man’s envy of his neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.” Ecclesiastes 4:4

    Father: Thank you for always finding a way to remind us of you. Thank you for your grace. Thank you for your forgivness. May we hear your voice and follow where you lead. Forgive us for where we have failed. May we seek your face, search your word, and pray without ceasing. Be near, O Lord.

    God I want to truly know You. Truly know You. And if I am honest to be known by You.
