Rascal Roadtrip:: St. Louis Surgery

by Matt MooneyJuly 19, 2012

I have decided to quit the twitt (and all social media) for our month of travel. But I will be blogging, and today I am using the blog for periodic updates on Lena’s surgery.

We made it to St. Louis, and everyone but Lena actually succeeded in getting sleep last night. We were all in the same hotel room, so I had my doubts, but 80% of us slept; the six hours in the car were passed with maps, games and movies.

Lena just went back for surgery, and I am probably just typing to pass the nervous energy. The folks here have been kind & we love to tell her story & show her off. Her anesthesiologist was Ukrainian. Somehow, this seemed as though God gave us a wink as she was rolled away. Reminding us that He has had her back before we knew her. Thanks for the prayers. We will be riding out post-op in a hotel, so we are looking forward to having the coming hours behind us.

In addition, tomorrow is Eliot’s 6th birthday. A dear friend had a box that I could fit in awaiting our arrival at the hotel to help celebrate. And it does help, knowing that others are remembering him with us.

    Mostly I have been lurking for 6+ years. Disciples encourage me, as you and Ginny have through your posts. Our journeys have been similar in many ways. One piece is Bay View, where we have found our way back–from AZ, MO, and now CA–many times over the years. We spent four wonderful days at the little family cottage across from the dorm on Terrace Ave. last week. The same place where we spent our last night together as a family of 3 so many years ago–the night before our 14-month-old son went quickly and unexpectedly to heaven (the cancer beast–undiagnosed in that pre-CT and MRI era). The weather last week was WONderful, the bay BEAUtiful. Saw your post about it last summer and asked if anyone knew you guys. So far — at least in our family circle — you remain unknown. Enjoy your stay. We left some coffee for you at Roast and Toast. Prayers for successful surgery for your little Lena, safe travel, and much rest and rejuvenation time in Bay View!

      Anne,
      What a wild world we inhabit. Thanks so much for taking the time to write and let us know of your story and of our mutual love for Bay View. I am sorry to hear of your loss, and I will remember your son during our time there. Maybe we’ll cross paths one day at Roast & Toast. I hope so.

    I hope Lena’s surgery and recovery went well! Thinking of you all and Eliot today. I so enjoy your writing, and am always encouraged, inspired, and challenged. Many posts leave me thinking for days. I will continue to think of you all as you make such a big journey. Hope you have a wonderful time!
