Should auld acquaintance be forgot….

by Matt MooneyDecember 30, 2010

I love New Year’s.  It may very well be my favorite holiday.  Everything all around outside is dead and cold and quiet, yet in sneaks this day with so much potential for change, redemption and new direction.  Sure, most of us will eat the very thing we swore off before nightfall, but no amount of resolution failure can overcome the potential for a new beginning.

He is a God of new beginnings.  One who never leaves us as we are.  Who never gives up on us.

Ok, I know I am sounding like the very cheeseballs I love to hate, but I can’t help myself.  Something about New Year’s turns me from analytical and doubting into Buddy the Elf.  Enjoy it while you can, there’s a spring in my step if you see me out.  I encourage you to resolve for change in more areas than your diet.  Feel free to let us know via the comments what your hoping for in 2011.  There is power in writing it down- not some hokey prosperity gospel BS- but the kind where you are more committed upon writing it down for the world to see.  My head is still circling for my own hopes for the new year, but I’ll report back when the thoughts have landed.  Until then, I’m working hard on our best of 2010 post and a post for IDEA Camp.

Here’s the last 2 year’s BEST OF list:  20082009.

My resolution: Be better at communicating with friends. Call them more often. Write letters to them. Pray for them. That’s it…and of course lose the last 5 pounds of baby weight.
    Miss you, Mooney family.

I’ve been noticing of late how I fly by the seat of my proverbial pants. I never used to be that way. I planned EVERYTHING! Well, as you know, plans fail. And I don’t like failure.

So like a lover scorned, I said goodbye to planning, and just started taking things as they come so as not to be disappointed when things didn’t go according to plan.

My plan for 2011 is to be more prepared. There is a balance. There has to be. Plan ahead, and then be graceful when plans change. I can do that! I think. It will take some careful, prayerful, planning. =) Again, Happy New Year to you all!

I quit my job to stay home with my boys, 3 and 1. My last day is tomorow! This year I want to put my children ahead of our bank account. I am ashamed it took me this long. I’m a mess, thank God for the gospel. Love reading your blog, often challenged, encouraged, and entertained =)
