snow in the Ozarks

by Matt MooneyFebruary 2, 2011

Since Ginny left me for another blog, I’ve been working on retooling some things around here.  Recently added a new about page.  Check it out if you so desire, and let me know what you think; it was not an easy task to quickly convey shifts that last a lifetime.

Please read the following in your best Garrison Keillor voice.  If you don’t know who that is, I propose you should.

The ice settled in for a nap, and the snow followed suite, dog piling on top.
Fayetteville is a lot prettier & a bit slower when the flakes fall from wherever snow flakes reside.
We with young have piled on strata- snowsuits, snow boots and anything wool.
To venture outside where faces turn red as soon as the door swings wide.
An inverse relationship surfaces to all who are keeping time-
1 minute outside to every 5 minutes spent suiting up.
But there will be no watch checking today.

“They are climbing the walls” she reports in a manner that let’s me know I am to do something about it.
So we pile in the Outback headed to anywhere- suddenly convinced that we made the right new car decision-
On this, the only day that all-wheel drive has mattered.
Yes, we anticipated this storm long ago, and now we can leave the house while your family continues to “climbs the walls”.

And all the snow and all the slow reminds us of what we acknowledge but cannot seem to practice.
It is good to play.  To go back for another cup.
To not be able to check off the next item on my list.
It is good to be together.  Even when forced, not chosen.
