NPR:: a story on the work of 99 Balloons

Here’s a link to a story that aired yesterday on Ozarks at Large, a radio show produced through our local NPR affiliate.  They intertwined three interviews in order to explain all that is going on these days with 99 Balloons:  me/ Amber, mother of Samuel, who attends rEcess/ and Kym Hannah, one of the leaders of TEAMworks Ukraine.  I liked it, and thought you might as well. Ozarks at Large Just look for the logo above for which story to listen to.  (EDIT:  actually, you will just have to input the date Oct. 26, 2010 in order for it to…

Today I pulled into a tough-to-find parking place and sought to gather myself.  My mom was inside the deli awaiting my arrival to the planned lunch date.  I did manage to fend it off just long enough to walk the long steps- head down- from my car to the entrance, ordered a sandwich and took a seat.  Then the waves crested higher than the paltry dam I had built in the driver’s seat of my car just moments before. “I’m sorry.  I’m just sad.  It just happened on the way over.”  I tried to explain, but didn’t need to.  Now,…

the little tree in the front yard

when we first viewed this house, we saw the previous owner cooking in her kitchen as we walked up the drive.  i immediately loved that… the kitchen is long and narrow & has three large windows that face the front yard.  with a 2 year old & a 9 month old, i am in the kitchen a ton & there is just something so wonderful about all that light entering in & surrounding the dishes & goldfish & milk & bottles & whining & giggles.  my view lately is particularly spectacular.  i watch leaves fall & swirl up into the…

I kissed a boo boo & I liked it

Last Thursday we were able to celebrate Hazel’s two year birthday with friends and cupcakes and chaos.  Again, we are left thanking our friends for celebrating alongside us.  They always show up and it means so much to us.  It was so fun to see Hazel old enough to realize, in some small way, what a birthday actually was.  As you can see, she lit up as everyone, in unison, sang her the birthday song.  She is quite a little girl, and I cannot wait to see the woman she becomes, although, already, I sense that such a day will…

Fall Fun Pictures

Our good friends Becky & Shelly came up with an “Autumn Calendar”.  This calendar has a different event every single day that celebrates & appreciates this wonderful season.  All sorts of exciting & simple things like watch leaves fall, light a fall candle, have a picnic in the park. Yesterday, the calendar said “go to a pumpkin patch”…so we did.  It was such a fun adventure.  The farm was off the beaten path and we had a bit of difficulty finding it, so in the extra time it took to get there, Anders’ diaper & clothes didn’t quite hold up.  Which,…
